one problem, that will never happen. Alltel does not own their network or even remotly have any form of cash to set it up. they just rent their network. Second, you can offer as much as of a cool device as you want, but its not going to cause millions of people to just dump their plans, break their contracts and switch. Mac cool-aid, down, now!

so I was looking around the apple store this afternoon till I noticed something :D
When selecting the MBP in the apple store you'll get some info below...
There's this one title where it shows front row... it says "It's showtime" :)
maybe it's a hint from apple :rolleyes: the MBP is the onle one where it says "it's showtime". the rest all say something else like "put on a show"...
ah well I'm just going crazy from waiting for the new MBP's...

Too big! This is what M$ didn't understand. The value of a tablet is NOT simply being able to write on the screen of a laptop. Tablets need to be comfortable in one hand, they need to be able to collect information (text, drawing, audio, still and motion video), they need to be able to play back information (on its own screen, but also on TVs, projectors, etc), and they need to be able to sync up with home computers. I probably want some functional capabilties (e.g. iPhoto red eye and retouch, or simple text/excel type input) but I DO NOT NEED TO RUN PHOTOSHOP ON MY TABLET! I will transfer my data/photos/video onto my main computer to do that kind of work.
If you give me a highly portable dock (something I can toss in a bag, and whip it out if I need it), then I won't need a bevy of I/O devices (firewire, s-video, etc) on the tablet itself. That can shrink the size, weight, and heat output.
If Apple does release a device like this, I make only one prediction about it. Some idiot will try to run Quake on it and report the framerate. "Because how can you justify an $(N*100) device that runs Quake at only (F) fps?"

What I've wondered since they killed the xServe is what they plan to fill their new data center with. Mac Pros on shelves? 1 billion minis? They aren't going to run it all on PCs. It would be a marketing disaster.

Not sure what you guys think about this, but I think it would make sense on the iPhone if they somehow integrate iAds into it... otherwise I'm not sure why they would take a $99 service and make it free.

They already provide fewer USB ports than the ICH10 actually provides (12 on the chip, but Apple only provides access to 5), so it's certainly possible this sort of thinking could be applied elsewhere.
I also wonder what else they would consider denying access to in the X79 (i.e. RAID functionality in particular).
Isn't Apple using usb connections for other hardware?
Bluetooth come to mind, the physical connection may not me nothing like a usb port or header but a usb connection may still provide the means to connect the Bluetooth mini board...
On the PSU subject, since Transporteur confirms that there are no vents from the HDDs going into the PSU Area, the only thing that could justify movin the PSU to the bottom area of the case would be.. having the power cable closer to the ground :D lol

I'm still left wondering, why the delay if it's only a minor spec bump? I don't doubt the sept. release it just doesn't add up. Rumors of a later release started well before the quake in Japan so I don't think you can justify that as the cause.

Apple could very easily set up their 'own' cell network.. the same way Virgin Mobile, TracPhone, and several other cell phone companies have done.
Not by building towers and cell sites.. but by buying blocks of numbers from an existing large carrier and rebranding it as their own.
Of course, for voice and text usage, this gets expensive for the customer.. but for things like downloads of video and music files, they could simply tack on a 'wireless' surcharge.
For instance, a particular iTunes song could cost say.. $2 if downloaded with a computer.. but $2.50 if downloaded 'direct to iPod'.
It would work very simular to the way those 'pre-paid' cell phones work. You buy the iPod from the store, no contract to sign, no comitments. Take it home and 'activate' it for wireless access, then pay for what you download, and pay nothing if you never use the wireless features.
iPod wireless. Don't talk. Listen.

With Sophos, users may find heaviness in different ways.
The default number of WorkerThreads seems to make the system unusable for some users of the current version of Sophos. That's heaviness of one sort.

I am all for buying software via download. I rarely get boxed versions of anything any more. But the OS is a different story. You need an external media for maintenance/reinstall. Also, the Mac App Store is not friendly to businesses yet. Until they have robust setups for master accounts and per seat licenses, it's not a viable distribution method for business customers.
And while Apple is also selling physical media with this version, it's pretty obvious that they won't bother with it next version of the OS. It's the same thing they did with the switch to DVD media in 10.4. To get CDs that worked on the DVD-less computers that were only a couple years old, you had to send Apple your DVD and get CDs mailed to you, which was a major pain. Apple has a long history of killing technologies quickly and giving the customers with older computers the shaft.

I'd love to see something like the USB stick that comes with the Macbook Airs and I'd be willing to pay extra for it. Optical media really needs to just die already. Bzzt. Wrong. Everyone using iOS has already given their consent for tracking by accepting the License Agreement and not globally turning off Location Services. You can't claim you didn't know or give consent when it's on page 2 of the License Agreement of the fracking phone's OS:
I seem to recall Facebook trying to use the same defense with all of its privacy issues and it didn't work so well.
Personally, I think this whole thing is a tempest in a teapot, but falling back on the license agreement is pretty weak.
