I did my pictures @ photopeople (studio) upwards of 80 bucks for me wife and son. Well I was still not satisfied.
So setup my own studio at home. A white sheet (ironed) and my Canon G6 on a tripod did a fantastic job. Took about 50 pics and finalised 1 for each. Next step was to get it in 2x2 format, In photoshop rescaled image to a height of 2 without messing with width (auto). The cropped extra width to make it 2 inches.
did a new canvas 6x4 inches in photoshop and pasted 6 copies 2x2 each (2rows of 3). Printed at instant machine at cvs $2 for 36 pictures total. I am happy with overall quality now.
And BTW I am not a web designer or a graphic designer. I am an Oracle DBA. So I am pretty sure anyone can do that provided you have some graphic editing/layout software. The only place where photoshop comes handy is exacting the size which would be difficult to do in vanilla paint in windows.
Recommended only if you are not getting a good picture even after spending ton of money.
Another tip is To avoid any shadows stand farther away from background (sheet in this case) and do it in daytime with blinds open with you facing a window or a patio/backyard door. Also zoom in to get exactly what you are looking for while shooting that way less cropping is needed. Try not to use the Flash (use it only if you are getting a shadow inspite of stading at a distance from the background.)
Also please go by instructions / specifications on the pictures as per following.

This may only work for Hightech Computer workers (with computers at home) and some rudimentary knowledge of graphics. For Medics and others with minimal computer skills, please don't waste time. It critical to have the pictures today or tomorrow even if you have to get from CVS/WALGREENS/RiteAID/SAMS/COSTCO or all and choose the one you are happy with.

We are also on the same boat. My GC (primary ) approved on Aug 2008 and my wife's 485 still pending, we have returned back from India last week and no questions asked about her AP.

Think before you post. People look into the threads based on the heading and your post which is irrelavant to the original post doesn't make any sense. May be look for the appropriate thread and post in there.
I am in H1 and filed for 485 and EAD, AP. Still have my H1B visa in my passport. Does getting EAD mean you are no more in H1? Or you really have to USE it to be out of H1.

Just landed from India to the states with permanent residency and i got asked all the stupid questions you can imagine, atleast the immigration officer gave me some good amusement after a long trip

Thats exactly my plan. It will be accompanied by covering letter, a spreadsheet and a recommendation.
I will be sending mainly to DOS , DHS and USCIS
First USCIS has no control or rights in visa allocation. It is 100% DOS job. I am not pesimistic, but it may not helpful. DOS under obligations, sets the cutoff dates in various catagories as per INA, its regulations and their SOP. Recommending some procedure is a major change for them. They have to verify whatever you recommend does not violate INA, and the regulations. Even ombudusman has not achived to modify the visa allocation procedure at DOS. Only thing you can do is, if you have any evidence that DOS is not following the INA or the regulation, you can bring to their notice. Thats all you can do.

Thought you might interested in my case status. I have visited chennai consulate and my case was approved without any questions raised. They did not even asked any documents for verification. All I submitted were DS 156, DS 157 AND I797. I am glad to share my experience. Thanks for offering suggestions and sharing your experience. :D

Not really .... My brother worked in India for 3 years and worked here in US for 5 years before moving back to India and he is earning good too.
Salary for any job depends on lot of factors. How one negotiates is a key factor.

For those who have their GC in their hand, the situation could be slightly different.
If you do not join the company, it is considered as SHAM EMPLOYMENT.
I am also in the same boat and I checked with a leading lawyer, According to her advice it is better to wait for 6 months or atleast couple of months before changing the employer.
GCProbs has an advantage here, since the Company A is about to be shut down wait till then. Obtain details about it and keep it with you. Just in the event of a question, you can answer.
By the way, I have decided to join another company after 2 months.
Jumping the boat immediately might cause trouble.
So please be patient and give it as much as time as possible. I will say at least 2-3 months.

LuDs are trivial. Sometimes there are LuDs on cases for no apparent reason.
I have had LuDs on my approved 140 even when there was nothing to begin with. Nothing pending since 140, no 485, no H1 extension. Even then there was LuD on 140.
No one really knows what LUD really indicates. Because there is really no pattern in LUDs on cases. NONE.
Rather than asking other blind men to lead you, why dont you take it upon yourself and find out for once and for all.
Let's say LUDs, or lack thereof are bothering you so much that you are losing sleep over it. You are trying to connect dots over LUD, fingerprinting and EAD etc. If you really want something so badly, why dont you stand up and fight for it and ask for it. I am not asking you to help IV or contribute funds or join state chapters. If you dont want to join state chapters, then dont. If you dont want to help IV, then its a different thing. This isnt about that.
But atleast, for your own good, if something bothers you so much, then do something for yourself. Get an appt with ASC and find out what LUD means. Fly to Washington DC, go to director of operations office at USCIS headquarters and ask them what LUD means and why isnt there more transparency in online status. Why do we have to connect dots with LUDS and whey cant there by step-by-step update of each petition. GO AND FIGHT FOR YOURSELF. Ask them why cant we know where my 485 file is at each step of adjudication process. Why is there only 3 possible status for every petition , like case is approved, or case is rejected or we sent request for more info/evidence. Just 3 possible statuses for each petition that really goes thru elaborate stages and statuses.
