I went to the Arlington DMV today. They took copies of my I-485 and EAD. They said they will send a letter to my home in 7 to 10 days, if I'm eligible for a drivers license. I went a month back when I didn't have the EAD with me and they did not even accept my documents for faxing it to Richmond. Man...its getting crazier everyday.

I am starting this thread to collect and share experiences using EAD as proof of legal presence with with VA DMV.

LuDs are trivial. Sometimes there are LuDs on cases for no apparent reason.
I have had LuDs on my approved 140 even when there was nothing to begin with. Nothing pending since 140, no 485, no H1 extension. Even then there was LuD on 140.
No one really knows what LUD really indicates. Because there is really no pattern in LUDs on cases. NONE.
Rather than asking other blind men to lead you, why dont you take it upon yourself and find out for once and for all.
Let's say LUDs, or lack thereof are bothering you so much that you are losing sleep over it. You are trying to connect dots over LUD, fingerprinting and EAD etc. If you really want something so badly, why dont you stand up and fight for it and ask for it. I am not asking you to help IV or contribute funds or join state chapters. If you dont want to join state chapters, then dont. If you dont want to help IV, then its a different thing. This isnt about that.
But atleast, for your own good, if something bothers you so much, then do something for yourself. Get an appt with ASC and find out what LUD means. Fly to Washington DC, go to director of operations office at USCIS headquarters and ask them what LUD means and why isnt there more transparency in online status. Why do we have to connect dots with LUDS and whey cant there by step-by-step update of each petition. GO AND FIGHT FOR YOURSELF. Ask them why cant we know where my 485 file is at each step of adjudication process. Why is there only 3 possible status for every petition , like case is approved, or case is rejected or we sent request for more info/evidence. Just 3 possible statuses for each petition that really goes thru elaborate stages and statuses.
Sitting here and asking other people, who dont know anything more than you do, is the same thing as one blind man asking another blind man to cross the street because the blind man is too lazy and to shy to ask someone with eyesight for a favor.
Again, I am not doing this to goad you into state chapter or funds. Or joining IV. Dont want to do what IV asks, then dont. But atleast do something FOR YOURSELF. Drive to DC, sit in USCIS HQ and ask them for something better than LUDs.

Some have the July 2nd receipt date but other have a later date especially if your case has been transferred from NSC to CSC and then back to NSC.:rolleyes:
yes I am :D and there are many July 2nd filers who have July 2nd as the receipt date and may not receive the EAD by Oct 1st. I may not either. I guess I am not that lucky here.

Just to keep the ideas about entrepreneurship and the group activity floating at a central place, a file has been created in the group. Any one who feels their ideas, thoughts and proposals are worth and benefit the VI entrepreneur community, please add them below. The team will review them frequently and try to implement as many as feasible in the best interests of the IV and the group.

4.Clearly identify the chain of command (whose responsible for what
and who does final decision)
5. Also assign the charter/board to come up with a business plan, do
investment analysis etc for the group.
6. Chalk out any short term and long term initiatives such as
attracting and retaining folks, managing day to day affairs, sharing
the wealth of knowledge and profits.
7. Should we register a ivstartup.org domain?
its 9.99/yr at godaddy, so that we can move from an informal setup
like yahoo groups to a more formal setup...with our own forum and
all..
8.Also to meet the cost...lets have a $1 as a yearly fee (or 50
cent/month) or 10$ life long membership....that will cover the cost
of hosting.
9. Like the one proposed on IV about Housing Crisis and speedy green card approval for buying houses, why not we propose an agenda for speedy green card process for I 485 pending and aspiring/existing entrepreneurs?

Why dont you write to your COngressman or Senator?
If possible go and meet them They will help you. or even better have your employer also write to them expalining the circumstances.

1) Wrote Congressman (Informed that I should get adjucation by 60-120days)
2) Wrote Senator,(Informed that I should get adjucation by 60-90days)
3) Wrote Ombudsman.,(Informed that I should get adjucation by 60-90days)
4) Called USCIS and raised thre SR so far.
5) Talked to IO atelast once a week since last one month. (Asked to wait for weeks everytime)
6) Had infopass past week : confirm teh case assigned to IO on Oct.17th
My background check is clear VISa is available PD ius current...Everything is ready to go....Except that sleeping IO should wait up and cleare his desk.:mad:
ONLY think now I need to do is track the IO and identify and contact him and wake him up and ask to do the needful.:D

I am a consultant hence i have given a friends address who own a home so that i dont need to change it often. Now i live in a different state (ofcourse temporarily) and since its USCIS i gave this address for any correspondence to USCIS. Now in future if i apply for any new forms many people have mentioned sending Drivers License but if i sent it it has a different address on it. is copy of drivers license mandatory? how does it work ?

I dont think this should be our priority, his reporting is mostly based on illegal immigration, he does talk about H1B visa sometimes and has reported some incorrect facts, but again his focus is more towards cleaning up the H1B visa system so that things are transparent rather than stopping it altogether.

As such there is no fix rule on who should get the visa and who shouldn't! It all depends on the Consular officer's Judjement of the case.
Can you list the documents that you sent and reason why the visa was denied?
Recently I sponsored my sister and her family to visit us in Summer of 2006. I had sent all the papers as required for applying for visitors visa. But the application was denied as consular was not satisfied.
Please suggest any ideas that could have helped in getting the visa. Since I was sponsoring her and taking full charge of her stay related expenses then why was it denied? What else is needed?

Make USCIS do or prove otherwise that what they publish and say is useless. So why publish at all.
BENEFITS:
1. My wife can work.
2. My son can get scholarships in college.
3. I can change jobs - so what if it is similar.

When I sink in Glory of winning battle #1 - I would definitely participate in getting Visa # increased - The longer and more difficult of the TWO Battles.
BTW - Let me know if battle # 2 is easier.
